Omar Salgado Rides Change of Heart to Top of MLS SuperDraft

BALTIMORE -- With the first pick of the 2011 MLS SuperDraft, and the first pick in franchise history, the Vancouver Whitecaps selected a player who may not even be eligible to play for them until September.

While the U.S. has enjoyed several important victories over Mexico on the field in recent years, last summer ago it scored one off it.

Omar Salgado, then a 16-year-old star of the future with Chivas de Guadalajara and a veteran of Mexico's junior national team program, decided to switch his international allegiance to the U.S.

Born in El Paso to Mexican parents, the forward was eligible to represent both countries.
