Edson Buddle's move from the Galaxy to the German second division caught some by surprise, but not defender Gregg Berhalter (“He had that dream, so to speak.”)
And nobody at L.A. understands Buddle's situation more so than Berhalter, whose 15-year European career included stints in Germany's 2. Bundesliga with Energie Cottbus and TSV 1860 Munich.
Here's what Berhalter had to say about FC Ingolstadt, Buddle's new team: “Ingolstadt has Audi behind them, and they want to make a push to stay in the league and then build from there. They're investing money in that.”
And about Germany's No. 2 league: “It's probably the best second division in the world. I can't think of one that's bigger. Because the stadiums are big, you have some massive clubs in there, the attendance is probably the highest of any second division, so it's good. You have competitive games. The whole setup is very, very professional, and he'll really enjoy that side of it.”
RUNNING MAN: Midfielder Bryan Jordan (Temple City/Temple City HS) is in New York for Friday's Millrose Games indoor track and field meet. He'll be racing in the Super 60 II, a 60-meter dash featuring athletes from different sports.
