Way back in September, Werder Bremen goalkeeper Tim Wiese responded to Jens Lehmann's critical punditry on Sky Sports Germany by saying his fellow goalkeeper should go on the Muppet Show or be committed to an asylum.
Six months later, Lehmann's thoughts have apparently drifted from his comeback with Arsenal to that comment and it's upset him to point of bringing legal action against Wiese. And he wonders why people call him Mad Jens. From the AP:
Lehmann is demanding ?20,000 ($28,480) for having his "personal rights violated."
A Munich court will hear the case this week.
That's a tiny sum of money for a top-flight footballer like Lehmann, so he's clearly just trying to stick it to Wiese for daring to snap back at him. As frivolous of a lawsuit as this is, though, it could be a sign of the 41-year-old finally maturing. In December of 2009, he snatched a fan's glasses and walked away with them when a post-match conversation didn't go the way he wanted it to. So I guess you could say this is more of an adult action for him to take than spectacle theft.
Our Mad Jens is growing up.
