Despite being in a 4-0 hole after the first leg, Spurs held out hope that "anything could happen" when it hosted Real Madrid for its Champions League quarterfinal second leg match. I don't think this was the "anything" it had in mind, though. After a scoreless first half that suited Jose Mourinho just fine, Spurs goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes made one of his trademark goof-ups by letting a Cristiano Ronaldo shot from distance skip right through his hands and bounce into the goal. That killed what little hope Spurs had and produced the only goal of the match.
Of course, Gomes did more than his fair share to get Spurs to the quarterfinals of the Champions League in the first place and with his teammates unable to manage a single goal, his mistake didn't make much of a difference. Still, he might want to start taking his gloves off before he eats handfuls of butter.
Psst -- it's right above you.
