Messi scores a hat trick against Atletico Madrid just because he can

Lionel Messi scored a hat trick against Atletico Madrid, giving Barcelona a 3-0 win and their 16th straight victory in a Liga match, a new record. Messi's first goal of the day was pretty much what we've grown to expect from him -- gliding past a swarm of defenders, causing opponents to comically collide into each other, and casually slipping the ball past the keeper.

After watching these highlights you can see that it's almost become easier for Messi to score goals than it is for him to not score goals. Saturday's haul gives him 24 league goals on the season now, giving him two more in two fewer matches than Cristiano Ronaldo, who has hit a mini goal drought of late.

I feel we are fast approaching the day when the only way to properly represent Messi's goal total is with an infinity symbol.
