EUROPE: Movsisyan scores, Zenit next?

Pasadena's Yura Movsisyan made his biggest impact to date with FC Krasnodar, scoring in the first minute of the second half to send the Byki (Bulls) to a 3-1 victory at Rostov and halting a seven-game Russian Premier League winless streak.


Movsisyan's goal, his second since joining the club in January, provided a 2-0 lead and momentum heading into the final 45 minutes, and Krasnodar manager Slavoljub Muslin singled him out after Friday's victory.

“Yura Movsisyan was the best player in the game,” the Serbian coach told reporters. “It was due to him that the Krasnodar team could change the course of the match.”

The tall striker's abilities, which have taken him from Pasadena City College to Major League Soccer to the Danish top division and to Russia -- and to Armenia national team -- are drawing attention from a Russian powerhouse.

Zenit St. Petersburg, the reigning champion in the RPL and both major Russian cups and victors in the 2008 UEFA Cup (the Europa League's predecessor), is looking to bring Movsisyan in during the summer transfer window, Armenian website ArmSport.am reports.
