Former Man City midfielder Elano has apologized on Twitter for kicking the referee in the midst of a scuffle that followed his Gremio side's contentious elimination from the Copa Sudamericana last Thursday. Gremio went into the second leg against Millionarios with a 1-0 lead, but ended up losing 3-2 on aggregate after a controversial penalty was awarded to the Colombian club in stoppage time.
After the final whistle, members of eliminated Gremio crowded around the officials and Elano kicked the ref. On Twitter, he later apologized for his outburst, saying "Very sad, sorry everyone. I was wrong!"
So if you lost track of the 31-year-old former Brazil international, that's what he's up to these days: kicking referees.
This has been the Dirty Tackle of the Day: a chronicling of unfortunate events.
