Roma continued their derby superiority over Lazio with a fifth straight victory on Sunday and yet again, violent shenanigans littered the match. In addition to the standard fare of elbows, bodychecks and taunts, there were also head stomps and odd headbutts attempts.
In the 73rd minute, Lazio's Francesco Matuzalem got away with executing a sneaky stomp on the side of Francesco Totti's face. The referee apparently didn't catch it and seemed a bit confused by the rucous it sparked.
It all turned strange in the 88th minute when Lazio's Stefan Radu was shown a straight red for charging towards Fabio Simplicio like an angry ostrich and attempted to aggressively nudge the top of his head into Simplico's face right in front of the linesman. It might have been the most awkward headbutt of all time. Have a look...
After that, Lazio continued to unravel by giving Totti a penalty to complete his brace and going down to nine men when Cristian Ledesma was sent off for arguing that decision. Lazio manager Edy Reja said his side fell for Totti's provocation and tricks throughout the match. And I'm willing to bet Totti was fine with that.
