With additions like Zlatan Ibrahimovic and David Beckham, PSG have done just about all they can to ensure they are the focus of attention in French football. Others in Ligue 1, like Louis Nicollin, owner of reigning champions Montpellier, are a little perturbed about this blatant spotlight-hogging. But, the 68-year-old who got an orange and blue fauxhawk after winning the title, knows exactly how he can steal some attention back.
From the AFP:
"To really annoy PSG, I would like to bring in Diego Maradona. With him, we would be all over the papers. I would like to say yes to him, but I can't see him coaching Montpellier and I don't have the financial power of the Qataris (PSG owners) to bring him here." he joked.
To prove how blurred the line between jokes and serious statements are for Nicollin, he also said that disgraced former France manager Raymond Domenech is an actual candidate to replace Rene Girard at the end of the season.
"I wouldn't be against it. We're going to think about it but he has to agree as well, because Montpellier are not just any old team."
I think I'd rather have Maradona.
