It didn't take long for Tigre's Copa Sudamericana match against Sao Paulo to degenerate into nonsense. Just 13 minutes into the match, there was already one sloppy collision too many, prompting a standoff. In the midst of this, Sao Paulo leading scorer Luis Fabiano tried to keep Tigre's Alejandro Donatti away from his teammate. Donatti took a swipe at Fabiano's arm, so Fabiano kicked out at him.
Fabiano completely misses Donatti (he was being held back), but after a second of thought, Donatti decides to go down as if it had connected (see the replay at about 1:50 for the better angle). Fabiano was then shown a straight red and as karmic retribution for his acting job, Donatti ended up getting sent off too.
Playing 10-v-10 for the final 77 minutes of the match, it ended in a scoreless draw.
This has been the [Phantom] Dirty Tackle of the Day: a chronicling of unfortunate events.
