NFL Owners? Con Game Hits a Snag

You’ve probably heard by now about Judge David Doty’s ruling that the NFL negotiated its TV contracts in bad faith, in violation of the league’s collective bargaining agreement with the NFL Players Association. The ruling basically takes away all the leverage the owners had in locking out players and canceling the 2011 NFL season. For [...]

France?s Whistle Blowing Fortune

Interesting footage to come out of Spain today: that big Olivier Giroud goal which saw Les Bleus net a colossal draw against the Milky Way Champeens? Almost didn’t happen. Our Own Private CONMEBOL

One of the side benefits of being an international soccer fan is the frequent refresher course in geography. Every so often, we are encouraged to grab a globe or fire up Google Maps, and we find ourselves saying, “Oh, so that’s where Slovenia is,” or, “Wow, that flight from London to Donetsk must be rough.”Some [...]

International Rules Football Is A Dog?s Game

Yesterday, our pals at Dirty Tackle decided to highlight a Copa Sudamericana match in which a dog invaded the pitch and held up play for 3 minutes. The suggestion that this dog might have been “the most successful pitch invader ever” falls flat, however, when you consider this rather famous moment from the International Rules [...]

Galaxy acquire ex-UCLA star Hoffman

The Los Angeles Galaxy added some offensive depth to its roster when the team announced Friday it had acquired second-year forward and former UCLA All-American Chandler Hoffman from the Philadelphia Union. The Galaxy gave up a conditional pick in next year's MLS SuperDraft. Hoffman, 22, appeared in only seven games in his rookie season with Philadelphia, making two starts. During his final season at UCLA, Hoffman scored 18 goals with six assists to lead the Bruins to the NCAA College Cup semifinals.

Any follower of the MLS post-season will be well aware of how Clint Dempsey and the Sounders made their exit at the hands of their most hated rival and really looked like they had been run off the pitch by a team without a true high-dollar star. Odds against U.S., but Azteca win is the aim

MEXICO CITY -- El Tri has never lost to the United States in 20 meetings at Estadio Azteca, they're soaring following their under-23 team's gold-medal triumph at the London Olympics, the last competitive meeting between CONCACAF's powers was a full-on rout, and they've got a strong, representative side ready to take on a young, incomplete American team in what could be a full house at North America's most iconic soccer venue. NFL Owners? Con Game Hits a Snag

You’ve probably heard by now about Judge David Doty’s ruling that the NFL negotiated its TV contracts in bad faith, in violation of the league’s collective bargaining agreement with the NFL Players Association. The Pro Bowl Should Be Replaced, Not Saved

Once upon a time, NFL players cared about playing football in the Pro Bowl. This is what they did yesterday instead. Notice how nobody seemed all that interested in hitting anyone. Struggles secondary in historic U.S. win

MEXICO CITY -- It was an historic victory, the first by the United States at Estadio Azteca in a series that dates to the 1930s, and those responsible couldn't have been more pleased with what they achieved. The Americans got a superb performance from their backline, at least two heroic saves from Tim Howard and one fortuitous goal to claim a 1-0 triumph Wednesday night over Mexico. And they weren't shy about proclaiming how important was the result .
