Yorba Linda's Steven Lenhart has been selected Major League Soccer's player of the week for the first time after scoring a hat trick to lead the San Jose Earthquakes past D.C. United, 4-2, on Saturday.
Lenhart (Esperanza HS/Azusa Pacific), who was traded to the Quakes from Columbus in the offseason, scored his first goal for San Jose a week earlier.
The big striker struck in the 15th, 22nd and 60th minutes and assisted Simon Dawkins' 49th-minute winner as the Quakes extended their unbeaten streak to six games.
Lenhart is the third local winner this season. Galaxy captain Landon Donovan (Redlands/Redlands East Valley HS) captured the honor in Week 6 and Chivas USA striker Justin Braun in Week 9.
